Although being on air for so long relativity few recordings exist,
however i have many hours
and i might as well start putting them up while there are still people
around who care. He has
now been dead for as long as he was doing the show, and to listen to
them now does bring
back the memories of mornings long gone.
This first batch of recordings are from the "Cosway Collection" a listener
who recorded a
lot of stuff off air in the 70's and in generally
good quality as well. Seems these were
recorded in 1978.
Evens 1
Gives his assistant Rosemary some stick and includes a talk with Peter
Couchman
about his early days at sea.
Evens 2
Open test music and various raves and listners letters.
Evens 3
A few open sequences. Stations used to close down for the night and before
they
opened played brass band music to test the transmitter. Quite a fi recording
if
your ears are not to stuffed you can hear the 10kc adjacent channel heterodyne
this was before they moved to 9kc spacing.
Evens 4
Evans gets a bit upset by some correspondence
Evens 5
Way back in 1978 Evans did not trust computors.
Evens 6
More general raves
Evens 7
Test music, fiddle sheets, broken dial cords and lots of payola, amazing
what he
got away with.
Evens 8
More pre 5AM testing, this was quite popular for the earlybirds and
insomniacs as Evans raved on a lot and messed around as he was not
officially on air yet.
Evens 9
Most of the program with all the music from 5AM till 20 to 7
in October 1976, gets annoyed by a nuisance caller
Flash away mate.
Evens 10
Mr Evans in not a grumpy mood and he even seems to be enjoying this shift
but then this is Friday the 5th of August 1978 and his moods always improved
near the end of the week. Getting up at 0400 would put most
people in a bad mood
